Nine Dead

Well, I got my wish. Since Lionsgate and their brethren began churning out Saw ripoffs, I have been asking for one that was cribbing from the story more than its death scenes, and Nine Dead is just that film. In fact, if anything it could have USED a few unique murders and/or gore shots, as everyone merely gets shot off camera, which gets a bit tiresome since the scenes in between are all in one location and focus entirely on our cast members yelling at each other.

Over a three-day period, a masked gunman kidnaps nine strangers in nine separate attacks. The city-wide mystery unravels when the LAPD receive a call from a local news station telling them about a website showing the nine kidnapped victims handcuffed to poles in an undisclosed location. Nine Dead is a 2009 horror thriller film, directed by Chris Shadley, produced by Paula Hart and written by Patrick Wehe Mahoney. Filming began on July 6, 2008 and ended on July 27, 2008. The film spent several months without a distributor but has now been picked up by New Line Cinema and it had its US limited release on November 6, 2009. The film had a March 9, 2010 DVD release.
