Writing Center Freebie (family word cards, event word cards, and fancy paper) - Pocket of Preschool
The writing center in my classroom is always busy. Students are always creating cards, writing letters to their families, drawing pictures, making books, and coping words at their own level. Students are scribbling, writing random letters, and some are sound spelling. I have a multi-age preschool with 3, 4, and 5 year olds.

What is Rainbow Writing and How Does It Help Emerging Writers?
I think, ideally, you would trace over each letter or number precisely when you do rainbow writing. I let Grace get a little silly with her formation in order to keep her interested in the activity. As long as she was forming the numbers correctly (I mean, not backwards), I let her be goofy.

The Mailbox
For this unique center idea, place one foam cup in another foam cup. Then label the cups, as shown, with a rime and onsets that form words with the rime. Label additional cups in the same manner to reinforce different rimes. Place the cups at a center stocked with paper.

For the next few Thinking Map Thursdays we are working on abc circle maps. I enlarged the maps onto 11x17 paper so that we could work on the maps together. The kids loved "thinking" about where each picture should go.

Kindergarten: Holding Hands and Sticking Together: Five for Friday November 11
This is a fun little activity I also leave up for early finishers. The kids also "play teacher" at free choice and do this. We first did it together as a morning activity, so they knew what to do. I used Post-its, but they didn't stick that well after a while, so I stuck the Post-it to a Popsicle stick with tape. .
