Know Your Lore: The Nightborne and the Horde
The Night Elves have their own perfectly valid reasons for not trusting the Nightborne right off the bat β but that isnβt really helpful when trying to forge new alliances. As we mentioned last week, we never really saw what pushed the Nightborne away from the Alliance. The conve

How do I unlock the Nightborne? - World of Warcraft Forums
I'm an Alliance player. I just finished all the requirements to unlock the Nightborne on my main. So I get the quest to go to Stormwind to go to the Embassy, and it looks like only the Alliance races are unlockable... ? Do I need a max level Horde toon to be able to get the quest to go to the Embassy in Orgrimmar to get the quest to unlock the Horde Allied Races? So they're forcing me to manually level up a horde player before I can make a Horde allied race? When my original plan was to just use my boost on a Nightborne, and have that as my one and only Horde toon? Wtf?

Why all the hate with Nightborne on Horde? - World of Warcraft Forums
Not a troll thread, I genuinely do not get it. There's been so much bitterness towards that move, I just don't get why the Nightborne allying with the Horde is causing such a saltfest. You don't see that with the other pre-BFA allied races; Alliance help the Highmountain Tauren save their home from the Hammer of Khaz'goroth, reunite their previously-separated tribes, and defeat the Drogbar. No complaints from Alliance. Horde help the Lightforged Draenei defeat their enemy they've fought for thousands of years, finally defeat the Legion, ' 'save' ' their world, reunite them with their long-separated brethren, and end the Burning Crusade. No complaints from Horde. Horde help Alleria discover a way for Elves to harness the power of the Void to their advantage, using its power to defeat their enemies and protect their allies, leading to the creation of the Void Elves themselves, some of which where Horde beforehand. No complaints from Horde. Is it because of Tyrande cold towards the Nightborne? Cause honestly lorewise I think that makes sense, given the history of Elves that have gone power hungry and gotten corrupted (Tyrande brings this up directly too), and how Surmar hid when threatened instead of helping out the other Night Elves. Is it because Thalyssra is serving on the front lines with the Horde in BfA? Because well, that makes sense if they're allied with the Horde now. I'd expect the HM Tauren, LF Draenei, and Void Elf leaders that were neutral in Legion to do the same. Is it disappointment? Because I can understand that; if they had gone Alliance I'd be a little disappointed too. But the rage I've seen about it is was more than just a 'disappointing' feeling. Is it because they're not neutral? Because Blizz seems pretty insistent on not having a neutral allied race. Plus you could also make the argument for LF Draenei and HM Tauren being neutral because both sides help them out. I genuinely do not get it.

The Nightborne are an allied race affiliated with the Horde. Led by First Arcanist Thalyssra, the shal'dorei joined the faction in most part due to the bond of kinship they feel with the blood elves.

Nightborne - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft
The nightborne (also spelled the Nightborne)[2] or shal'dorei in the native tongue[3][4] are a powerful and mystical race of elves who live in Suramar. Since the city was first separated from the rest of the world over 10,000 years ago, they are no longer true night elves and have evolved by the Nightwell into a unique elven species.[5] For the majority of their secluded existence, virtually the entire group resided in the ancient city of Suramar and were led solely until recent times by Grand Magistrix Elisande. The nightborne race owes much of its unique physical characteristics to its long dependence on the Nightwell, an ancient source of power crafted by Suramar's Highborne residents during the War of the Ancients. Over their lengthy isolation, the exposure of the nightborne to the Nightwell's energies gradually transformed them from their original Kaldorei night elven appearance to their present darker, more night-based form.
