The Dachshund is a short-legged, long-bodied dog originating in Germany. Popular as pets and lapdogs, they were originally bred to hunt burrowing game. They come in three coat types - smooth-coated, wire-haired and long-haired - and both standard and miniature variations. They're also called Wiener Dogs.
