Information on Bearded Collies
The Bearded Collie, also known as the Hairy Mou'ed Collie, the Highland Collie, the Mountain Collie, the Hairy Mountain Dog or simply the Beardie, is one of Britain's oldest dog breeds. They were introduced to the United States in the late 1950's, but it was not until 1967 that the first litter of Bearded Collies was officially born in this country.

History of the Bearded Collie - Bearded Collie Club of America
The safest thing that can be said about the origins of the Bearded Collie is that they are lost in the mists of antiquity. This is a breed which has evolved naturally over the centuries and not one created in the relatively recent past, such as the Golden Retriever and the Doberman, whose pedigrees can be traced right back to the original stud books.

Pet MD: The Bearded Collie
Lovingly referred to as the Beardie, the Bearded Collie is an intelligent, curious-looking dog breed that loves to play with children. Thought to be originally from Britain, it later spent some time in Scotland as a sheep and cattle herder before coming to America. The Bearded Collie is now mostly bred for dog shows, though it makes an excellent family companion.
