The European Burmese is a medium-sized cat breed with short hair and an affectionate nature. She is quite similar to "regular" Burmese from North America - other than the fact that the European Burmese comes in a wide array of colors such as blue, lilac, red and several tortie variations.

The European Burmese is a descendent of the Burmese that originated in Burma and came to the United States in the 1920s. In the 1960s, British breeders wanted to expand the colors that the Burmese came in so bred them with red point Siamese and British Shorthairs. The hard, muscular body is of medium length and size, and is heavier than it appears.
