American Greyhound Adoption
American Greyhound, Inc. is a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to finding homes for unwanted greyhounds. Our volunteers rescue hounds when they have no where else to turn, provide the necessary veterinary care, teach them what it means to live in a home as a companion animal, and find them good homes where they are able to live out their lives.

Adopting & Caring for a Greyhound
Greyhounds do have a few specific needs. They are sighthounds and have actually been bred to be hunters. They have exceptional eyesight and a natural instinct to chase that has been reinforced by their race training. They can detect the movement of even a small animal at a distance of 1/2 a mile. And if they can see it, they will probably chase it.

Adopting a Greyhound: Getting to Know Your Dog
Your Greyhound is an inside dog. It does not do well in extreme temperatures, rain, chill, etc. Ex-racers are almost all muscle with very little body fat to insulate them against changes in temperatures. You signed a contract that states your hound will be kept inside. Don't break the contract.
